Response to Coronavirus disease - COVID-19 - March 16 2019

From Phillip Coupal at the Awaken Studio - Toronto

March 16, 2020

The Awaken Studio will be closed for at least 14 days.

There will be no classes or events and I will not be offering private sessions for individual clients. Over this closure of the studio, I will be communicating with clients via telephone, email and "SKYPE". If you need to contact me I will be most accessible via email.

Over the last 2 days, I have contemplated what actions to take in the face of this global outbreak of Coronavirus disease - COVID-19, I am doing my best to be socially aware and taking personal responsibility for myself and the Awaken Studio. I also find myself working to do the best I am able for the community of men who visit, show up to practice and support the Awaken Studio.

I am hoping that the Awaken Studio can reopen either March 30th or 31st.  With the best possible scenario, the schedule of classes, workshops and individual client sessions would resume near the end of March. As this health crisis is ever changing I will take these changes into consideration and make another decision a couple of days before the end of March. Please watch for a communication about reopening sometime near the 28th or 29th of March.

I am not sick and I have no symptoms. I believe that we must look and act with a science based approach to do the best we can for our neighbours and community members. Although I have no been directly instructed to close, I believe this temporary closure is the responsible thing to do and can help clients, visitors and the general community that surrounds each of us. I think and experience that people are: distracted, anxious and uncertain. I hope in making this decision, to lead with heart and not lead with fear. I believe that it would be irresponsible and take undue risk to invite participants and clients to travel, intermingle with uncontrolled environments on the way and partake in interactions with those who might be unknown or un-symptomatic carriers. At this time, inviting clients to the Awaken Studio could lead them and those they intermingle with to unnecessary risk of exposure.

I am watching the ever changing developments closely and rely on the advice the medical community and our community leaders.

I have read a lot about the spread of this virus and the spread of viruses within populations during an epidemic outbreak. For me perhaps the most understandable information and the information that I could relate to was in this Washington Post article:

There is also more information on the Canadian Government website: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/health-professionals/public-health-measures-mitigate-covid-19.html

I am eternally grateful to the many health care workers who are on the front lines working unceasingly, and with dedication managing this pandemic as they care for those of us who have become unwell.

I wish you all, wellness, love, peace and support as we all get through these uncertain and uneasy times together, even in our isolation and separation.
