Do I have to be nude in the Naked Yoga class?

Writer's picture: Phillip CoupalPhillip Coupal

This is a question that is commonly asked.

Do I have to be nude in the Naked Yoga class?

My answer ...

Do I have to be nude in the Naked Yoga class?

Nudity in Naked Yoga classes is mandatory. I am sorry and I hope this does not turn you away. If one man remains with cloths on there is an imbalance and this takes away from the cohesion of the group.

If you are there for the Tuesday evening class, the room is set in an intimate way. The room is lit by candlelight. This is a small class, and the atmosphere is calm and allows for the initial fear to move to a place of softening and moving away from the constraints of the external world.

It is quite common for a level of shyness. Men seem to get over it fairly quickly as they realize that the nudity is not the most crucial element.

For me every time I get naked for a class, I am constantly reminded of my relationship to my body. For every man who comes to a class, those reminders, thoughts, and relationships that we have with ourselves is going to differ between every man gathered.

With common nudity with the gathering group, there is a level playing field, and equality and trust begins to pervade the group. This equality replaces the competitive, comparative and performance driven world we live in, in the outside world. All of that that we leave behind as we enter the studio, will be waiting for use when we make our way home after the class. In the moment as we recline and lay on our individual mat, within our island of space around each of us in the practice, we can go on an internal journey that is calming relaxing and allows us to let go in our own way and in the safe and supportive environment of the studio.

I hope this helps. If you have more or wish to book a call, I am open to however you show up.

I look forward to getting to know you more and I hope you will join us.

All the best

Phillip
